Therapy For Perinatal and Postpartum Anxiety, OCD and Mood Disorders
Perinatal & Postpartum Therapy can be beneficial to new and expecting parents. There are several forms of mood disruptions parents may notice when they are pregnant or have recently had a child. This may include symptoms of increased mood fluctuations, increased irritability or rage, sadness, obsessive thoughts, phobias, or just general transitional stress
Perinatal & Postpartum Therapy in Chicago for Parenting Stress
The general stressors that come along with transitioning to parenthood for the first time or having more than one child at home can be overwhelming. Often the people we treat are struggling to find time to take care of their own needs let alone that along with the needs of their child/ children. We work to help you make sense of your worries and fears so they can best cope and live a values-based life.
Perinatal and Postpartum Therapy for OCD & Anxiety
At Limitless Counseling Center we see many clients who notice obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behaviors during and after pregnancy that are highly distracting and disruptive. There are many different worries clients struggle with.
This can include:
- Fear of contamination when cleaning your pump, bottles, and the home excessively
- Intense fear around doing the “best thing” for your child
- Disruptive checking behaviors with individual feelings and symptoms or with your child (i.e. checking the monitor excessively, looking to see if the baby is breathing in a way that is disruptive, etc)
- Intrusive thoughts that really surprise and disturb them you
- Researching questions or seeking reassurance more often than what may be considered necessary
All sessions start with asking the clients how they are doing and if there is anything they would like to focus on for that day. If they are struggling to come up with a focus for the session, their provider will start with some prompting questions to help move into the flow of the session. Then, we check in about the previous week and what was helpful and unhelpful to manage symptoms between sessions. Clients are welcome to discuss what is most pressing for them, and we will end the session by setting goals for the following week. To learn more check out this blog post.
“My main goal is to help reduce any shame my clients are feeling and provide evidenced-based tools so their worries become less distracting and disruptive in their lives.” – Abigail Lynch, LCPC
