Postpartum OCD involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) related to the baby’s safety or wellbeing, followed by compulsive behaviors designed to reduce anxiety — such as excessive checking, reassurance seeking, avoidance of certain situations, or over-researching. Common obsession themes include harm coming to the baby, contamination, and fears about doing the ‘wrong’ thing. Postpartum OCD is highly treatable with ERP and cognitive behavioral therapy.
