What is the difference between postpartum anxiety and postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression is primarily characterized by persistent low mood, loss of interest, feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, and at times difficulty bonding with the baby. Postpartum anxiety involves excessive worry, fear, and hypervigilance — often focused on the baby’s safety or your ability to parent. These conditions can occur together, and many new parents experience elements of both. Abigail specializes in postpartum anxiety and OCD specifically, and can provide referrals if other support is needed.
