Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

When a Family Member Has OCD: Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Skills to Help Families Affected by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

If you have a loved one in your life with OCD, or if you simply want to better understand this diagnosis, this is the book for you. Often I hear partners and family members say, “I just want to do what is most helpful.” What’s helpful for those you love, with OCD, often feels counterintuitive. So, this book can help you guide you to be the best support possible for those in your life who struggle with obsessions and compulsions.

Everyday Mindfulness for OCD: Tips, Tricks, and Skills for Living Joyfully

This book is a practical addition to your self help bookshelf for if you treat or are struggling with OCD. This and the following workbook are designed to assist clients with exposures, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral exercises in order to reach their treatment goals. A book like this can help solidify skills discussed in therapy and provide a reference for work done outside of sessions.

The Mindfulness Workbook for OCD: A Guide to Overcoming Obsessions and Compulsions Using Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (A New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook)

This workbook designed to assist individuals diagnosed with OCD. This book does a wonderful job of introducing skills to practice and describes different obsessive themes (i.e. contamination, sexual orientation, harm, and more) in great detail. This can help you better understand your obsessions and compulsions and it will provide exercises and exposures that can be used on your own or with the assistance of your OCD specialist. I typically recommend this book to all of my clients with OCD to help assist in validating their experience and to help further their understanding of what will help reduce the frequency and intensity of their obsessions.

Freedom From Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

I often recommend this book to my clients who want a detailed approach to addressing OCD and the various subtypes. I draw from this book by Johnathan Grayson often!

Panic Attacks/ Panic Disorder

Panic Attacks Workbook: A Guided Program for Beating the Panic Trick

When you are struggling with panic attacks and/or Panic Disorder, this workbook can help you better understand your panic symptoms and assist you with reducing your symptoms over time. I utilize information from this workbook in sessions with my clients and often recommend clients purchase it for their own reference for treatment work done outside of sessions. Panic attacks can make people feel very isolated and out of control. This type of resource helps give you a better understanding of what’s going on and effective strategies to help you move forward.

While this isn’t a book specifically designed for individuals with an Anxiety diagnosis, it is one I often reference for clients who struggle with self esteem and have a harsh inner critic. Kristin Neff helps readers gain a better understanding of how to internalize self compassionate language and thus helps us move away from self criticism.
